McKinsey Quarterly April 2014 – Gender diversity and corporate culture

Increasing gender diversity in top management
means moving corporate culture

This influential report asserts that more women at the top means changing collective values, beliefs and principles i.e. changing corporate culture.  The report outlines the findings from a survey of 1400 managers Worldwide.  The findings suggest that corporate culture plays a critical role in gender diversity at the top of organisations suggesting it’s twice as important as individual mindsets in determining whether or not women believe they can succeed. Women are less confident than their male peers in their chances of success and there is a lack of awareness amongst men of the specific difficulties women face.  The report calls for CEO commitment to increasing diversity at the top and individual development programmes for women.
