The latest ELEVATE Event from The Glass Lift ‘Why being on a board is good for your career’ took place in Bristol on 7th June 2016. The event was run in partnership with Women on Boards, a UK-wide organisation helping women make the right connections and choices in their career to get to board level.
Our Guest Speaker was Lisa Jones, Director at Women on Boards, and an Angel Business Investor. Lisa is also Trustee for London based charity Regenerate and NED for start-up The Feel Good Bakery.
Lisa talked about her experiences and shared her unique insight with us, speaking about why we need more women on boards; how women succeed in getting to the top; what you as an individual can do to get on a board; how your organisation can encourage more female board members.
Lisa’s inspiring presentation explored 7 reasons why being a NED can be hugely fulfilling and beneficial to your career. Benefits include providing a point of difference on your CV; building career resilience; allowing you to network outside your normal career, plus many more!
Following our guest speaker, our panel of senior leaders then shared and discussed their own diverse experience of taking on board roles in a range of sectors, including public, private and voluntary organisations. Our panel featured:
