The Glass Lift Team led by Margaret Davies, Director and Occupational Psychologists, recently discussed these and many more questions in a day long Masterclass for the NHS South West Leadership Academy, “Increasing Productivity Through People”.
The aim of the Masterclass was to enable leaders to improve performance and productivity by increasing the psychological wellbeing, motivation and commitment of people at work. The Glass Lift team aim was to help participants to:
1. Understand and identify factors that get in the way of people’s ability to perform at their best in their organisation.
2. Employ leadership strategies to counter these factors to increase the psychological wellbeing, motivation and commitment of employees as a facilitator to increase productivity.
3. Understand how working practices might be adapted to improve the wellbeing, motivation and commitment of NHS staff.
Throughout the day The Glass Lift team used a strengths based approach and their considerable experience of leadership and employee motivation to highlight how various interventions can result in positive improvements in engagement and therefore increase overall productivity.
Discussed was the importance of optimising working patterns, reducing ‘presenteeism’, enabling psychologically healthy workplaces and the importance of building diverse and inclusive leadership cultures.
